In the month since Wal-Mart shuttered 16 of its stores across North Carolina, including a Supercenter store in south Durham, a marketing effort has begun to find new buyers for the empty buildings.
Wal-Mart has hired Commonwealth Commercial Partners Inc. of Glen Allen, Virginia, to list all of its vacant properties in North Carolina. This includes 15 of the former Wal-Mart Express stores that had been operating in mostly rural communities like Four Oaks, Benson and Princeton in Johnston County.
